Sepideh Sayyad Daryabakhsh
Artist Statement
Sepideh Sayyad Daryabakhsh’s artistic practice moves between painting and printmaking, exploring the emotional and psychological layers of human experience. Her works often emerge from an interest in the relationship between the individual, memory, identity, and the traces that experiences leave behind. Rather than presenting a fixed or literal narrative, she creates spaces in which figures, forms, and fragments can suggest states of uncertainty, transformation, vulnerability, and introspection.
Daryabakhsh is interested in the tension between what is visible and what remains hidden. Her approach allows forms to become ambiguous and sometimes distorted, creating a sense of distance from ordinary reality. Through this process, familiar elements can take on a different emotional meaning. The human figure and its surrounding space are not simply subjects in her work; they become ways of examining inner experiences and the quiet changes that take place within them.
Painting and printmaking provide her with different but complementary possibilities. She uses the physical character of materials, surfaces, lines, layers, and marks as an important part of the creative process. In printmaking, repetition and the transformation of an image allow her to investigate how a single idea can change through different impressions. In painting, color, composition, and the treatment of the figure create a more open and intuitive space for emotional expression.
Her practice is rooted in an ongoing process of observation, experimentation, and transformation. She does not seek to offer a single interpretation for the viewer. Instead, her works invite viewers to pause, look closely, and connect the visual experience with their own memories and emotions.
