Mozhgan Ahmadi

Artist Statement

My artistic practice explores the human figure as a site of emotional experience, identity, and psychological tension. Drawing on personal memories, lived experiences, and everyday observations, I approach the human body not merely as a physical form, but as a space where vulnerability, conflict, and transformation become visible.

Working across figurative expressionism, abstract expressionism, and surreal elements, I use distortion, gesture, colour, and fragmented forms to explore the complexity of human experience. My figures often exist between recognition and abstraction, reflecting the instability of identity and the contradictions within human relationships.

Rather than offering fixed narratives or definitive answers, my paintings create spaces in which opposing emotions and experiences can coexist. Through this process, I seek to reveal the fragile boundaries between the inner self and the external world, exploring how personal experiences shape the ways we perceive ourselves and others.

In the Studio

Mozhgan Ahmadi is a visual artist born in Herat and currently based in Iran. Her artistic journey began with self-directed exploration of painting, an art form she has always considered an inseparable part of herself. This deep connection led her to further develop her practice alongside established artists.

Working at the intersection of figurative and abstract expressionism, with elements of surrealism, Ahmadi explores the human figure as a reflection of the complexities of human experience. Her work delves into the contradictions of human nature, the weight of painful experiences and mistakes, and the intricate relationships between individuals and the societies they inhabit. Through her paintings, she seeks to uncover the emotions, tensions, and often-unspoken realities that lie beneath the surface of everyday life.
